EMP™ Chargewell
The Electromagnetic Pump (EMP™) chargewell is a custom built refractory lined vessel designed to contain and form the required flow pattern of the molten aluminium. The inlet and outlet legs of the chargewell are lined with either a silicon carbide (SiC) or silicon nitride (Si3N4) tube enclosed within an insulating blanket. The chargewell’s main body is refractory lined with low cement castable. The base of the chargewell houses a patented pre-cast shape which in conjunction with the high velocity flow from the EMP pump, generates a vortex pattern. The vortex pattern allows the addition of elemental additions and light gauge materials to be charged through the vortex. A variety of patented cast shapes are available (LOTUSS™, LOTUSS™ Hybrid and standard baffle) and are installed to suit the application, i.e. dry hearth, heeled, twin chamber furnace etc. The unit is protected against metal overflow by a twin set of independent level probes that trip and alarm the EMP when in contact with metal.
